Are You Taking Care Of Your Air Conditioner This Summer?

<_>

The first warm day of the year means it’s time to turn on your air conditioner. For many Atlanta residents, they flip the switch and the air conditioning remains on for months at a time.

Has it been properly maintained? Was it working properly when you turned it on? Is it still working as effortlessly as possible?

Are You Taking Care Of Your Air Conditioner This Summer?Air conditioning maintenance isn’t a one time thing. It isn’t something you do once in the spring before it heats up and expect your equipment to work to perfection all season long. There are still things you should do to keep it as efficient as possible.

Change The Filter

We can’t stress this enough. This is one of the most important things you can do for your air conditioner. Especially when we have heat waves that last for weeks at a time, and your air conditioner runs more than not, change out that filter every month or so to allow a clean airflow into your air conditioner. Stock up and it’ll only take a few minutes of your time each month.

Use It Wisely

Using your air conditioner shouldn’t just be turning it on and letting it run. You should strive to use it as efficiently as possible to both make your utility bills lower and to reduce wear and tear. This means installing a programmable thermostat should be at the top of your list. We recommend keeping your temperature around 78 degrees throughout the summer. Raise it up by 10 degrees if you’re away from home for a few hours or more, and programming it to return to your desired temperature a few minutes before you’re scheduled to arrive at home.

Watch, Listen, Feel

You should also pay attention to any noticeable changes throughout the summer. Do you see moisture building up where it shouldn’t be? Do you hear funny noises that weren’t there before? Do certain rooms feel colder or warmer others, especially if you’ve never had problems before? The sooner you call in an HVAC expert, the quicker they can locate the problem and repair it before it grows into a bigger problem.
